What is Cydeside Urban?
Clydeside Urban is an independent website exploring neighborhoods and community life across Clydeside.
The aim of the site is to generate some chat about how areas across Clydeside work (and how they could work better) through observations, data, and local knowledge.
What does “Clydeside” cover?
Clydeside refers to the urban area that follows the River Clyde in west-central Scotland. This covers Glasgow and Renfrewshire and the places that connect them.
Clydeside isn’t an official boundary, but it covers an urban area shaped by common transport links, streets, and patterns of daily life.
Who runs this site?
Clydeside Urban is run by Graeme Smith, who has lived in Renfrew all his life.
Graeme enjoys visiting cities around the world and seeing how people live, move around, use public space, and interact with their surroundings.
Many cities he has visited have invested in well-connected transport, high-quality public spaces, and streets designed for people rather than just vehicles.
Returning home, he is often frustrated by how many of these features are missing or underdeveloped across Clydeside – despite the area’s potential. This frustration has led to the creation of this site.
Graeme is a researcher with over ten years’ experience and currently works in the public sector. He has a PhD in psychology and has a strong interest in data science, particularly data visualisation and data-driven storytelling.
